Iron Alex (Feb 23:Race 8) Broke inward from the rail and was pretty rank on the backstretch. Made a move from the back around the turn and rallied on well to get 4th. Speed was playing very strong this day and the winner in here won gate-to-wire. This was his first start for trainer Andy Mathis, as he was claimed for 16k in his previous start at Santa Anita. Should improve next out if he gets off the rail.
Thorny Weather (Feb 22: Race 4) Got away from the gate slow and sat in the back. Was asked in the stretch and had a strong rally for 3rd. Will get a ton out of this race because it was his first start since November 1st. Going to be much fitter 2nd off the layoff.
