Today’s card at Golden Gate Fields was filled with heavy rain and strong winds. All turf races were put on the main track, and I’d imagine we won’t be seeing turf racing for a while as there is a lot more rain in the forecast. Race 7 on the card was a Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old Cal-breds going 6f. As the gates opened, the William Morey trainee In Cahoots broke like a rocket and shot to the lead. He led them around the turn and jockey Abel Cedillo had plenty left in the tank for the stretch run– they went on to win by a comfortable 2 lengths. There were a lot of horses wandering in the stretch, as they were running into a strong headwind. He won at odds of 7/1 and ran the 6f in 1:11.53. In Cahoots is by Tizbud, and is a home-bred for owner Ron Watchorn.

Golden Gate Debutante winner Tomlin made her Graded Stakes debut in the G2 Santa Ynez at Santa Anita. She was coming into the race in good form and ran a very nice 3rd behind multiple G1 winner Bellafina. This daughter of Distorted Humor continues to progress nicely for trainer Steve Specht. She is now 6:3-0-2 with earnings of $95,820.
While there were only 3 race days this week, there will still be a ‘Horses to Watch’ dropping on Wednesday. The feedback from the first one was very good and I look forward to continuing this weekly series.
Jockeys: Silvio Amador had a huge day as he bagged 3 winners– all aboard nice prices. He brought home horses at odds of (Race 4) 7/1, (Race 5) 11/1, and (Race 9) 12/1. Alejandro Gomez also had a good day taking 2 races.

Trainers: Like yesterday, all 9 races today were won by different trainers. After winning today’s 3rd race, Jonathan Wong hopped into a share of the lead– there is now a 4-way tie atop the trainer standings.

There continues to be rain in the forecast throughout most of next week. Racing resumes on Thursday with a 7-race card– 1st post is set for 12:45pm.
